NEW DELHI, DEC 23: The three judge bench of Justice BR Gavai, Krishna Murari led by AM Khanwilkar on Friday directed the Centre to assist the return of all the 36 foreigners to their native land after absolving them of all the charges with regard to Tablighi Jamat case.
On 15th December the Delhi High Court acquitted them of all the charges, linked with flouting Covid-19 rules, ‘citing lack of incriminating evidence.’ The court observed that the prosecution failed to prove the presence of the 36 accused in the Markaz between March 12 and April 1 when the alleged violation of COVID-19 19 rules took place.
According to Live Law, ‘the accused hailed from a number of countries including the US, Russia, UK, France, Sudan, Tunisia, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Thailand, Kazakhstan and Indonesia.’
The bench asked the Centre to appoint a nodal officer to assist them to return. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta assured the court that in case of any difficulty faced by the foreign nationals, absolved of all charges, can get their lawyers to get in touch with his office for any assistance.
The Delhi Tablighi Jamat Markaz sparked huge fury and bewilderment among the masses this year in March which was attended by around 9000 participants from varied nations.
