THIRUVANANTHAMPURAM, DEC 26: Arya Rajendran, a 21-year-old student, is expected to become the mayor of Kerala’s Thiruvananthapuram corporation. Currently pursuing Bachelor of Science in Mathematics in All Saints College, the Second Year student hails from a lower middle-class family and is a Daughter of an electrician K Rajendran and LIC agent Sreelatha Rajendran.
“I was into politics at a young age. If the party asks me to take up any role, I will be the happiest to accept it.” She said to Hindustan Times.
Thiruvananthapuram district committee on Friday recommended her name which has to be ratified by the party state secretariat, according to NDTV.
Besides being a state committee member of the Student’s Federation of India (SFI), the student wing of CPI (M), she is also the incumbent president of Balasangam which is the children’s wing of the party. In the recently held local body election polls, she successfully bagged 2872 votes from the Mudavanmughal ward.
“Coming from a children’s organization, I would focus on upgrading the lower primary in the ward” Arya stated to The News Minute. The CPI(M)- led Left Democratic Front acquired 51 out of the 100 wards in the city, winning the Thiruvananthampuram Corporation for the second consecutive time.
